FAA Arranges Transfer of Fire Rescue Vehicles to Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, DC — As part of its continuing effort to support the rebuilding of the civil aviation system in Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) helped secure the donation of two surplus aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles for the Mazar-i-Sharif Airport in Northern Afghanistan

Fw 190A-2 Yellow 16 rises from the deep

December 15, 1943 Fw-190A2 ‘Yellow 16′ took of from the airfield Herdla in Norway. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot experienced engine trouble and had to make a controlled emergency landing on the water near the village of Solsvika west of Bergen. Almost 63 years later, on November 1, 2006, the aircraft got air under its wing again, when it was raised from a depth of 60 meters after a 5 hour recovery operation.

Piper unwraps a jet at NBAA

Launching a new era for the 70-year-old lightplane manufacturer, Piper Aircraft president and CEO Jim Bass last month took the wraps off the design mockup for the single-engine, six-seat PiperJet, an airplane priced at $2.19 million that adds another serious player to the market for very light jets.

The 17th FAI World Hot Air Balloon Championship, held at Tochigi in Japan from 18 to 26 November 2006, came to a successful conclusion, thus closing the 2006 FAI World Championships season.

Korean Air to buy 25 aircraft from Boeing for $5.5 billion
